Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 10 servings

Ingredients

  • 16 ounce can refried beans
  • ½ packet ranch seasoning mix
  • ½ packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup guacamole or diced avocado
  • Optional: fresh lime juice
  • cups salsa or pico de gallo
  • 15 ounce can fire-roasted corn drained
  • Shredded lettuce
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Sliced black olives or crushed blue tortilla chips
  • Sour cream
  • Sliced grape tomatoes or diced tomatoes
  • Optional: white cheese slices for stars
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Method

  1. Make the Bean Layer: In a medium bowl, mix together the refried beans, ranch seasoning, and taco seasoning until combined. Spread evenly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Spread the guacamole or diced avocado evenly over the bean layer. If desired, squeeze fresh lime juice over the top to help prevent browning.
  3. Spread the salsa or pico de gallo evenly over the guacamole layer.
  4. Sprinkle the drained fire-roasted corn evenly across the salsa layer.
  5. Top with a layer of shredded lettuce.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the lettuce.
  7. Create the Flag Design: Arrange sliced black olives (or crushed blue tortilla chips) in the upper left corner to create the blue section of the American flag. For an extra festive touch, cut small stars from white cheese slices and place them on top of the olive section.
  8. Transfer sour cream to a zip-top bag and snip off one corner. Pipe white stripes across the dip.
  9. Use sliced grape tomatoes or diced tomatoes to create the red stripes between the sour cream stripes.
  10. Serve immediately with blue corn tortilla chips.

Tips for the Best 7 Layer Dip

  • Drain salsa well if it's particularly watery to prevent a soggy dip.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the best flavor and texture.
  • Assemble the dip a few hours ahead of time and refrigerate until serving.
  • Add the lettuce and decorative toppings shortly before serving for maximum freshness.
  • Blue tortilla chips make a fun alternative to black olives for the flag section.
