Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef see notes at the bottom
- 1 yellow onion grated
- 1/2 tsp salt and pepper
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 2- 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes
- 2-15 ounce cans tomato sauce
- 6 ounce can tomato paste
- 1/2 cup beef broth can substitute red wine
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 bunch fresh oregano tied together with kitchen twine, or 1 tablespoon dried oregano
Method
- Lightly spray your crockpot with nonstick cooking spray or use a crockpot liner.
- In a sauté pan over medium high heat add the ground beef and cook through, about 5-10 minutes. Mid way through cooking the beef add the grated onion, the salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Drain beef if necessary. add the beef to the crockpot.
- Add all other ingredients and stir. Cover and cook on low 6 hours or on high for 3 hours.
- Before serving remove the oregano bundle and the bay leaves.

Notes
You can use 2 pounds of ground beef instead of 1 pound if you like it meaty. You can also use Italian sausage instead, or a combo of beef and sausage. You could also use ground pork, turkey, or chicken, if you prefer.
This sauce freezes well. To freeze, let the sauce cool completely and add to gallon sized freezer bags. Stays fresh in the freezer 6 months.
