Method
- Prep Your Pan: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Make the Truffle Base: In a food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies (filling and all) until they form a fine crumb. Transfer the crushed cookies to a large mixing bowl and add the softened cream cheese.
- Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the Oreo crumbs and cream cheese together until fully combined and smooth. The mixture should hold together like dough.
- Form the Truffles: Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, roll the mixture into 1-inch balls. You should get about 40 truffles. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Freeze: Place the tray in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up the truffles. This makes them easier to dip.
- Melt the Candy Coating: While the truffles chill, melt your red, white, and blue candy melts according to the package directions. Work with one color at a time to keep the melts smooth and manageable.
- Dip and Decorate: Start with the blue coating: Dip 12 truffles, using a fork to turn and coat evenly. Let excess coating drip off, then place back on the tray and immediately top with patriotic sprinkles.
- Next, dip 16 truffles in red coating and repeat the process.
- Finally, coat the remaining 12 truffles in white and decorate.
- Once all truffles are coated and decorated, return the tray to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour, or until the candy coating is fully set.
- Assemble into a Flag: To create a patriotic presentation, arrange the truffles into the shape of the American flag—use the blue truffles for the star field and alternate rows of red and white truffles for the stripes.
