Easy 3-Ingredient Cherry Dump Cobbler

Sharing is caring!

This easy Cherry Dump Cobbler is the kind of dessert I love for fall—warm, cozy, ridiculously easy, and made with just 3 ingredients!

A wooden spoon lifts a scoop of cherry crisp from a pink baking dish filled with red fruit filling and a golden brown crumb topping.

All you need is cherry pie filling, oatmeal cookie mix, and butter. I have added an optional 4th ingredient- almond extract. Almond and cherry just love each other! But if you aren’t a fan, you can leave it out.

Just dump everything into a baking dish, bake until golden and bubbly, and you have an easy dessert that tastes like you spent way more time in the kitchen than you actually did!

Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a little whipped cream, and you’ve got the perfect fall dessert.

Two cans of Great Value cherry pie filling, a bag of Betty Crocker oatmeal cookie mix, a bottle of Watkins pure almond extract, and a measuring cup of milk on a black tray.

Ingredients

Cherry Pie Filling

You’ll need 2 cans of cherry pie filling. Sweet cherry pie filling gives this dessert its fruity, jammy center.

Oatmeal Cookie Mix

A bag of oatmeal cookie mix creates a deliciously crispy and chewy, buttery topping that pairs perfectly with the cherries.

Butter

You’ll need 3/4 cup melted unsalted butter. The butter helps turn the cookie mix into a golden, crisp topping. This is a little less than 2 sticks.

Optional: Almond Extract

For even more cherry flavor, stir 2 teaspoons of almond extract into the cherry pie filling. Almond and cherry are such a delicious combination! I can’t make a cherry dessert without some almond extract.

Baking Dish

You’ll need a 9×13 baking dish. I spray it with nonstick cooking spray first. This is the pink baking dish I’m using.

How to Make Cherry Dump Cobbler

1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Add the Cherry Pie Filling

Pour both cans of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

If you’re using almond extract, stir 2 teaspoons into the cherry pie filling.

3. Add the Cookie Mix

Sprinkle the entire bag of oatmeal cookie mix evenly over the cherry pie filling.

4. Add the Butter

Pour 3/4 cup melted unsalted butter evenly over the cookie mix.

Using a spoon or spatula, carefully swirl the butter and cookie mix together, making sure there aren’t any large areas of dry cookie mix remaining.

5. Bake

Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cherry filling is hot and bubbly.

6. Cool and Serve

Let the cobbler cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Spoon it into bowls and serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

And if you’re really going for it, I highly recommend the vanilla ice cream—the cold, creamy ice cream melting over the warm cherry cobbler is SO good!

Tips for Making Cherry Dump Cobbler

Don’t skip the butter. Make sure the melted butter is distributed over the cookie mix as evenly as possible so the topping cooks properly.

Check for dry spots. Before baking, carefully swirl the butter and cookie mix together so you don’t have large patches of dry mix.

Let it rest. Give the cobbler 10–15 minutes to cool after baking. This allows the cherry filling to thicken slightly and makes it easier to serve.

Serve it warm. This dessert is especially delicious while it’s still warm from the oven.

Variations

Use another pie filling: You can easily swap the cherry pie filling for blueberry, peach, apple, or another favorite fruit pie filling.

Add almond extract: The almond extract is optional, but it adds a delicious flavor that works especially well with cherries. If you don’t like it, just leave it out.

Add chopped nuts: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the top before baking for some extra crunch.

Try a different cookie mix: If you can’t find oatmeal cookie mix, you can experiment with another cookie mix for a different flavor like snickerdoodle or sugar cookie.

How to Store Leftover Cherry Cobbler

Cover leftover cobbler and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

You can reheat individual servings in the microwave until warm. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream right before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make cherry dump cobbler ahead of time?

Yes! You can bake the cobbler ahead of time and refrigerate it once cooled. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the entire dish in the oven before serving.

Do I have to use almond extract?

No! The almond extract is completely optional. The cobbler is delicious with just the three main ingredients.

Can I use salted butter?

Yes. I use unsalted butter because the cookie mix already contains salt, but salted butter will work if that’s what you have.

Can I use homemade cherry pie filling?

Absolutely! Store-bought canned pie filling makes this recipe especially quick and easy, but homemade cherry pie filling can be used too.
