- Cream cheese, softened
- Monterey Jack cheese, shredded (plus extra to slice for the laces)
- Sour cream- or substitute plain Greek yogurt
- Pickled jalapeños, drained and chopped
- Seasonings- garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder
- Chopped bacon- I’m using Baco’s, but if you want to fry up your own bacon use 8-10 strips
For the Coating
- Chopped bacon- or use chopped pecans for crunch
- Fresh jalapeño
- Dried sweetened cranberries- this is such a great contrast to the jalapeños! Dried cherries can also be used
How to Make Jalapeño Popper Football Dip
Make the coating
In a medium bowl, mix together the diced fresh jalapeño, chopped cranberries, and 1 cup of the chopped bacon. Set aside. (You’ll use the remaining ½ cup bacon for the dip itself.)

Whip the cream cheese
In a large bowl, use a hand mixer to whip the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
Mix in the goodness
Add the shredded Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, pickled jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and the remaining bacon. Mix until fully combined.

Shape the football
Spoon the mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Wrap it up and gently shape it into a football. Unwrap and place it onto your serving platter, smoothing the sides as needed.
Add the coating
Using a spoon or your hands, press the jalapeño-cranberry-bacon mixture onto the top and sides of the football.

Create the laces
Slice extra Monterey Jack cheese into thin strips and arrange them on top to look like football laces.
Serve and enjoy
Serve chilled or slightly softened with crackers and watch it disappear!

Tips, Variations & Storage
- Store any leftover Jalapeño Popper Football Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dip is best enjoyed cold or slightly softened and does not freeze well due to the cream cheese and sour cream base.
- Less heat: Use mild pickled jalapeños and skip the fresh jalapeño in the coating.
- More heat: Add a pinch of cayenne or finely diced fresh jalapeño into the dip itself.
- Make ahead: Assemble the dip (without the coating) up to 24 hours ahead. Add the coating and cheese laces right before serving.
- No cranberries? Finely diced red bell pepper or dried cherries works great.

FAQ’s
Can I make this dip ahead of time?
Yes! You can prepare and shape the dip up to 24 hours in advance. Cover tightly and refrigerate. Add the coating and cheese laces just before serving for the best look and texture.
Is this dip spicy?
It has a mild to medium heat. For less spice, use mild pickled jalapeños and skip the fresh jalapeño in the coating. For more heat, leave some seeds in or add cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper to the cream cheese base.
What can I substitute for cranberries?
If you don’t love sweet heat, finely diced red bell pepper works great and keeps the festive football look.
Can I use a different cheese?
Absolutely. Pepper jack adds more heat, while mozzarella or Colby Jack will keep it milder.
